Reality Setting In

A few “PK’s” in the sanctuary of our sweet church in Louisville:

The sound of packing tape, the smell of Sharpies, paper and boxes piling higher and higher around us.  Reality is setting in. . .as I experience my “awww” moment of the day:

One of Elijah’s friends says to him: “My best friend is leaving!”

Elijah responds: “WHO?”

His friend incredulously back to him, “YOU!”

Elijah: “oh yeah.”  Sigh.  We will miss this place MOST for the people we have grown to love here!

Micah to Elijah: “Can you share your new Batman pj’s with me tonight?”

Mommy to Elijah: “What a great idea, why don’t we do good and share, like God tells us to, Elijah?”

Micah, before Elijah has a chance to answer: “YEAH, ‘Lijah, God says for you to share your Batman pj’s with me!”

Emporium, Pennsylvania or BUST!

The waiting is over!! We are so thankful for your prayers for us in the search process! After spending about four days in Emporium, PA, Jeremy was unanimously voted on and called to this small, sweet Southern Baptist congregation in the rural mountains of north-central Pennsylvania.

This evening, Jeremy accepted the call to pastor Faith Baptist Church in Emporium, PA. The town population is about 2500 total and about 47% claim Catholicism as their religion. Though it is a call to pastor, we feel that this is a precious opportunity for us to be missionaries also.

As with any move, there will be adjustments for our family and lots of hard work, so your continued prayers are appreciated. To God be the glory!

Pictures coming soon. . .

Blessed are They That Wait

Over the last several months we have waited, discovered, gotten answers, waited some more, passed milestones, and are still waiting some more.  We’ve waited for phone calls, letters, answers, responses, interviews, decisions from individuals, and decisions from groups.  Some days we think the answer is just around the corner and the waiting will be over.  But then it isn’t.

But, just for perspective, it is said that it seems to take about an average of 6 months for churches to find and call a pastor.  So that means that it can take well over that time for a pastor to find a church oftentimes!  In case you start to feel sorry for us, we haven’t even started the process, if you want to compare us with “average.”  We’ve only been seriously searching and pursuing ministry positions for about three months now.  So the waiting may have just begun.

Lately God has been showing us that we are not waiting on ANYONE or ANYTHING, but on God HIMSELF!  God has had our future planned out before the foundation of the world, and HE has chosen the perfect time to give us a place to serve in ministry.  I have been humbly reminded that this waiting thing is not just something to endure or grit my teeth through.  I am to wait on GOD, not for this to be over, or for an answer from a church, or a particular ministry position to open up.  My waiting is to be completely on God who controls all those things!

Again, the words of Andrew Murray, in his book “Waiting on God” encouraged my heart tonight:

“Do you believe that in waiting on God, His greatness and your littleness suit and meet each other most wonderfully.  Just bow in emptiness and poverty and utter weakness, in humility and meekness and surrender to His will before His great glory, and be still.  As you wait on Him, God draws near.  He will reveal Himself as the God who will mightily fulfill His every promise.  And, let your heart continually take up the song: ‘Blessed are all they that wait for Him.’  My soul, wait thou only upon God!”

Tomorrow Jeremy will cross a stage and be handed a beautiful sheet of paper.  I’m so proud of him and all he has accomplished over the years, but especially these last 2.5!

We may have answers next weekend, which is even more exciting!  Can hardly wait to know, and we can’t wait to share the details with you!  God’s timing is perfect, and we rest peacefully in that.

An Update

Nothing definitive, but Jeremy is farther along in the process with church in the northeast for a senior/lead pastor role. Soon, our family will be spending about 4 days with the church visiting their community. Jeremy is the only candidate being presented, and he will be preaching and sharing the gospel with the church body.

We are excited about this possibility, but trusting God for whatever outcome HE desires for our family. Please continue to pray for us, as we seek to honor the Lord in all that we do in this process that, at times, we feel so clueless about.

This month is quite busy as we prepare for the next stage, Jeremy graduates, and we enjoy a quiet Christmas and New Year’s here at home. Any updates will likely be posted here, so if you want to be know right away, please subscribe in the upper left-hand side of this blog.

Merry Christmas and many blessings from our family to yours!
