The Caskey Family

Well, You Asked!

Today during family devotions, we read about the creation of Adam and Eve.  I thought I would probe a little to lay the ground work for tomorrow when we would cover the Fall.

“So why did Adam and Eve not feel embarrassed even though they didn’t wear clothes in the Garden after God made them?” (I was hoping for the answer, “because they had not sinned yet”)

Instead I get this great logical explanation from one of them after a long silence: “well. . .it was only the two of them in the garden and it was big (there were four rivers running through it) so they probably didn’t see each other very often.”

Well, that’s one explanation, and this mommy had the hardest time keeping a straight face (I HAD to, they had thought through their answer and was VERY serious about this explanation!)

Does God Wear a Superman Cape?

John 1:3 says: “All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.”

Tonight we were talking about superheros (again) and Micah who continues to love wearing capes (his latest creation is the neck of a Buzz Lightyear costume slid over his head left trailing down his back like a cape) kept talking about the power of different superheros.

So I asked them, “but Who is the MOST powerful Person EVER?” God of course! He has power to do whatever He choses to do, and He is capable of any miracle He wants to do (yesterday we read about Jesus first miracle and how that proved to people who saw it that He was not just a regular man, that He was GOD.)

Micah’s eyes got huge and he blurts out, “does God wear a Superman cape?”

Thankfully, no, God does not NEED a cape – all HE has to do is speak.

Micah to Elijah: “Can you share your new Batman pj’s with me tonight?”

Mommy to Elijah: “What a great idea, why don’t we do good and share, like God tells us to, Elijah?”

Micah, before Elijah has a chance to answer: “YEAH, ‘Lijah, God says for you to share your Batman pj’s with me!”

You are an Evil Man

As I putting some laundry away in the children’s closet this afternoon, I overheard Merry playing with her Fisher Price Little People (the old ones from when Jeremy was growing up.)  “You are a bad man, you’re evil!  You have to stay here under the bed, you are evil!”

On my way out I glance to see who she’s giving this lecture to, because she seems to be convinced that he is a bad guy for some reason, and I didn’t know they had those among that collection.  She was shoving BERT from Sesame Street under the bed!

“Merry, I know he’s funny-looking, but he’s not a bad guy, that’s a nice guy, Bert, he’s not bad!”  She responds very insistently, “Mommy, I don’t like him, he’s evil.”

Today Elijah said, “just call me Darth Vader,” Micah learned to kiss with a real pucker and Merry told a little friend of hers who’s a boy, “I love you.”  I just love watching them grow up.

Give Me My Pot!

I know some of you think I’m earthy/hippie/oatmeal-cookie-kind-of-girl . . . well, I’ve met someone who beats me in that department.  My daughter.

For Easter Merry got a bright pink watering can in her Easter basket (see her picture in the pictures a few posts ago) so she could help me with my gardening.  She calls it her “pot” no matter how many times I tell her it’s a watering can like mommy’s.  Why say “watering can” when you can just say “pot,” right?  So, as we are getting out of the car the other day at the garden, she says to Elijah very loudly, “Get me my pot, I NEEEEEED my POT!!!”

Today Elijah got his first pair of light-up shoes, thanks to Grandma and Pap.  Need I say more.  The little man is happy.  He also got Star Wars (“Star Horse” as he says it) underwear.  He has a habit of showing off his new underwear to unsuspecting victims at church “Look at my new underwear, it has_____ on it!”  Whatever it happens to be, it was Spiderman recently, now Yoda.

Jeremy and I are trying to ward off a second church-underwear-display so Jeremy says to him on our way into the house today as Elijah’s carrying in the new underwear, “Now tomorrow at church, you are going to have to keep Yoda in your pants, okay?  No showing him to other people.”
