Does God Wear a Superman Cape?

John 1:3 says: “All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.”

Tonight we were talking about superheros (again) and Micah who continues to love wearing capes (his latest creation is the neck of a Buzz Lightyear costume slid over his head left trailing down his back like a cape) kept talking about the power of different superheros.

So I asked them, “but Who is the MOST powerful Person EVER?” God of course! He has power to do whatever He choses to do, and He is capable of any miracle He wants to do (yesterday we read about Jesus first miracle and how that proved to people who saw it that He was not just a regular man, that He was GOD.)

Micah’s eyes got huge and he blurts out, “does God wear a Superman cape?”

Thankfully, no, God does not NEED a cape – all HE has to do is speak.

Is That Your Cape?

Micah LOVES capes. After he wore out the one he got this summer I made him one for his birthday that he wears pretty much everywhere. We require him to take it off for bed, Sunday morning church, and during meals.

Today, Merry is helping me in the kitchen, wearing her apron when Micah walks in, and says, pointing at her apron, “oh, is that your cape, Merry?” Of course! Only logical, Micah!

When we go out, people always talk to Micah about his cape and smile at him. The other day someone asked him, “What’s your super power, Micah?” to which he matter-of-factly answered, “I don’t have any super powers.” Or does
he? Does cuteness count for a super power?

What We’ve Been Doing

One of my last blog posts contained a reading list. . .sigh.  I’m accomplishing that, but not much else (including good regular blogging!!)  We are busy with seminary life, involved in our church, Kenwood Baptist Church and loving watching our children grow.  So you don’t miss out on the children growing up, I thought I’d post a few pics:

Here are the children snuggling on the couch watching a movie.  No, this was not posed, they actually watch movies like this sometimes!

Picking apples with friends

And of course, getting into trouble is a common occurrence too!

And we actually got a family photo taken recently!!

This is us on the steps of the library Jeremy’s second “office”!

Today Elijah said, “just call me Darth Vader,” Micah learned to kiss with a real pucker and Merry told a little friend of hers who’s a boy, “I love you.”  I just love watching them grow up.

The other day I walked into the living room and Elijah had put the Mr. Potato Head glasses onto Micah.  He was sitting there looking through his glasses and sucking on his pacifier happily.  We had to get the other ones (from this lovely huge anniversary set Jeremy got them) and made a few more potato heads!

This is not a postcard.  This is a picture Elijah took out the car window from his carseat on our way to some friends’ house in Hollywood, SC! No photo editing done – just a beautiful shot of a beautiful scene!

I LOVE this photo because of how worried Merry looks.  Micah was just ready to eat and couldn’t understand why Mommy kept taking pictures instead of feeding him!  “Micah needs some milk, Momma. . .” a common comment in our house.

Cleaning Off All the Germs

Today at MOPPETS (while I attended MOPS) the children learned all about germs and hygiene. They even made a HUGE germ for craft time.  Tonight I put them in the bathtub and Elijah took it upon himself as I had my back turned to pour in an entire bottle of baby shampoo. I scolded him and told him he didn’t need to use a WHOLE bottle of shampoo, just a little. He gives me the EMPTY bottle, lays down in the tub of bubbles (talk about an expensive bubble bath!) and starts washing himself in a sing song voice “washing off all the germs, washing off all the germs.” Of course I had to take a picture. . .

Dancing Pigs in Church

We have been trying to work with our children to get them sitting in the church service quietly for the first half. . . and so far we’ve been doing okay, especially since we moved to the front row. Our pastor suggested this, since they are close to the music, whoever is reading, etc, and it keeps them tuned in longer than if you have them in the back (they feel like observers more than participants I guess.) Anyway, there is a “quiet box” at church with a few quiet things for them to have to occupy them. Elijah always picks this big plastic pig to hold and Merry usually gets a book.

Today as I walked them out when our pastor got up to preach, I complimented them on their good behavior: “I liked how you all sang with us during some of the songs, and Elijah, you folded your hands while we prayed and Merry, you were quiet too, most of the time. . .” at which point Elijah chimed in (holding his plastic pig up toward me) “and the pig danced for the music too!” Apparently his pig had been dancing to the worship music. . .we’ll have to keep an eye on that bovine next week, I don’t know if it’s kosher for a pig to dance in a Baptist church!

Giving Thanks

We have much to be thankful for (yes, I know it’s late for a Thankgiving post, sorry!) as a family.  We have spent the last few weeks just spending time together with each other and lots of family from out of town.  Micah is growing and is very healthy.  He will be four weeks old on Friday. . .wow, does time fly!

Micah is is own sweet personality and it is fun to watch him grow and become more alert (at times other than 3 AM, of course!)  He has Jeremy’s same rare blood type and has many features that may make him more of Jeremy’s clone than even Elijah is. . .he even snores like Jeremy. . .already at this young age!

Our out of town guests began with Aunt Beth and Uncle Bryan from North Carolina.  It was the first time we got to meet Bryan, and we are thankful that God has blessed Beth with a husband like him.  He is very sweet and laid-back and we enjoyed spending time with him.  We got to go to the Festival of Lights on James Island with Beth and Bryan, complete with our traditional hot cocoa in thermoses and hot dogs added this year.  YUM!

The following week, Jeremy’s parents came for the Thanksgiving holiday as well as his brother Joe and his new bride, Dani.  Beth and Bryan were also able to come for a few days also.  We are thankful for military hotels. . .I would have really been sweating with that many in our house!

We had a total of 22 for Thanksgiving (19 seated plus 3 babies) – we had family, friends, coworkers and neighbors, so we kept things diverse. . . and it was a very sweet time.  Jeremy made two smoked turkeys and we also deep fried four turkey roasts.

The day after Thanksgiving, the young couples without children went out shopping while the rest of us made fun of them being so crazy!  In the morning the day after Thankgiving we relaxed and put up the Christmas tree as is tradition in our house and played It’s a Wonderful Life on the TV while we decorated.  Bryan heartily joined into the family tradition lifting the children up to put the ornaments on the tree.  We gave them the popcorn we had strung together years ago with Beth to use now on their tree.
