Strangest Conversation Yet

Today Jeremy had the funniest conversation with a leader in a church that is currently without a pastor:

Leader: “So, you will be preaching next Sunday morning.”
Jeremy: “Uh. . .I’m not available next Sunday, I’m sorry?” (This church is over 9 hours away. . .can you hear the thoughts going through Jeremy’s head, WHAT? Did I forget to tell him that I couldn’t preach this week? None of my professors told me what to do when this happens!)
Leader: “Oh, I mean you will be preaching from a CD player for our Sunday morning sermon.”

Whew! This is a first for us. So many surprises along this road. A wide range of different possible outcomes. But I’m so very thankful that I serve a God who KNOWS and is PREPARING the exact ministry HE desires for Jeremy and our family. God has been faithful to show Himself as a God who hears our prayers and provides more than what we need.

Jeremy has prayerfully and selectively put his resume at churches that seem like they would be a good fit for us and us for them. God, in HIS PERFECT timing will give us what we need, and a body of believers what they need also (though in the words of Frank Cone, they probably “deserve a better pastor than me.”) This has been so humbling for us. How blessed we are that we get to do this!

If you go to a church that currently has a pastor who preaches God’s word to you every week, PRAISE GOD, and tell your pastor that you are thankful for their family and their ministry to you and your family day and week in and out. Many churches even here in America are without a pastor this holiday season. Pray for them! Pray that God would bless them with godly leadership.

And pray for your current pastor and his family. They are a precious gift.

If you think of praying for us, please pray that we would continue to trust God and NOT put our hope in the process or an outcome, or even in our efforts to do and say all the right things. Please pray for Jeremy to have stamina, discernment, wisdom and encouraging words for the leaders in churches seeking pastors.

We wait with excitement, hope and joy knowing that God will glorify Himself. . .it’ll be fun to see HOW!
