Making Memories and Thanking God

Lately I’ve been enjoying the everyday things I hope my children will remember about our family. Like family devotions, or having “reading parties,” dancing together in our little living room with the ottoman pushed back, or having chocolate milk for breakfast sometimes (gasp!)

More than not wanting my children to forget the good things our family shares, I want them to remember the goodness of the LORD! “Only give heed to yourself and keep your soul diligently, so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your sons and your grandsons.” Deuteronomy 4:9 How easy it is to be just as forgetful as the children of Israel!

The other day Micah asked to pray, and he said “dear God, thank you. . .” and then he looked around and named everything around him including “‘da spoons, ‘da plates, cups, water. . .” until I smelled the toast burning in the oven and nudged him with an “in Jesus’ name, Amen”

O God, give us hearts that are simply thankful, and hearts that remember to remember your goodness, your faithfulness, and your mercy toward us in Christ!
