Kentucky Great Commission Vote

Yesterday Jeremy and I drove to Lexington to represent Kenwood Baptist Church at the Kentucky Baptist Convention meeting. Dr. York and the Great Commission Task Force recommended moving state funds given by churches toward world missions at a more generous rate over the next 10 years. It was exciting to be there, to hear the discussion. There was strong opposition from some, but not a majority.

The vote was made after an extension of time for discussion and the recommendations of the Task Force were approved by a 621-317 vote!

There is an article this morning in the paper found here: http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20101116/FEATURES10/311170047/Kentucky+Baptists+vote+to+gradually+cut+programs++staff

Praying this encourages missionaries on the field and begins to unite Believers even more for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. May God be glorified!

Thank you Dr. York and all those on the Task Force – your hard work, putting your name and reputation on the line for the work of the Gospel is encouraging Kentucky to consider everything loss compared to Jesus Christ!

Being at the meeting, I was reminded that I need to be praying more for churches, leaders in churches and the body of Christ. We need to submit our hearts to God so much so that we find nothing more important than Christ, not our programs, not our comfort, not even our churches. God desires a sacrificial and obedient people who worship no other god besides HIM! May God open the eyes of the church to the god of materialism comfort that we are worshipping.

Philippians 4:8 “What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ”
