Happy New Year!! Book Recommendations

What a great year of blessing the Lord gave us in 2009!  We got to spend it as a family (daddy home from Iraq) and our children have matured and there seems to be a light at the end of the toddler tunnel.  God brought us to Louisville, Jeremy started seminary, and we believe we may be hearing a call from the Lord to do International missionwork, either here in the US or overseas.  God has blessed us with many friends and godly influences who are passionately seeking to serve the Lord.

We continue to have many opportunities to share Jesus with people from other cultures and countries who speak very little English here in Louisville.  Just in the past few days, Jeremy spent time in several homes, just visiting sometimes, and other times helping out in practical ways such as in helping with job applications and resumes.  He continues to teach a translated Bible study at our church through the book of John.

We had a group of international friends over for a Guam fiesta (funny how they scarfed up that fare so much quicker than the normal American fare we usually serve them!!) and I (Adina) got to attend an all-women New Year’s Eve party where another seminary student friend of mine and I met and got to spend time with ladies from all parts of Iraq, Pakistan, and Nepal.  We are constantly in awe of how God is bridging barriers and giving us blatant opportunities to physically and verbally share the Good News of the cross with our friends.  We are humbled and more burdened for those who have never heard the Gospel as time goes by.

We update pictures of times with our international friends on this Facebook photo album, you can check back to it periodically: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=170713&id=660159362&l=f2e7560f75

One tool that has changed our perspective this year has been reading (as a couple) “Operation World” which is a devotional-style encyclopedia of countries of the world and a synopsis of the progress of the gospel in each.  It has really stunned us how spiritually impoverished the majority of the world is.

If I had to recommend only two books this year, it would be “Operation World” and “Humility” by Andrew Murray, a slim easy read that changed my perspective this year.

Praying God’s greatest blessings overwhelm your family and hearts this new year, for HIS glory alone!

Adina, My heart resonates with this post. We are so in awe of what the Lord is doing in your lives and we are sensing in ours a growing concern for the those who don’t know Jesus. The children and I have been using the children’s version of Operation World for school–wow! God is good!

Love you, Cassie
